ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the expression of human papillomavirus E2 mRNA in cervical cytologi-cal specimens as well as the role of that in cervical carcinogenesis and its clinical significance in screening and evalat-ing prognosis of cervical lesions. Methods The expression of E2 mRNA in 582 cases of cervical cytological speci-mens with high risk human papillomavirus infection and cytological diagnosis of NILM,ASCUS and LSIL,was detected by RT -PCR.Thereafter,all cases were divided into the four groups by colposcopy and histopathological confirmation, including 414 cases of cervicitis,95 cases of CINⅠ,51 cases of CINⅡ,20 cases of CINⅢ and 2 cases of invasive cervical carcinoma as well. Results The expression of HPV -E2 mRNA decreased dramatically corresponding with pathological upgrading from groups of cervicitis to invasive cervical carcinoma (χ2 =132.72,P <0.05).The sensitiv-ity,specificity,positive predictive value and negative predictive value of HPV -E2 mRNA for screening potential cervical lesions in group of NILM,ASCUS and LSIL were 77.2%,96.8%,75.6%,96.0% and 81.0%,91.7%, 79.1%,92.6% as well as 95.9%,93.4%,94.7%,95.0% respectively. Conclusion Deletion of HPV -E2 induced by genetic disruption played an important role in the early stage of malignant transformation of cervical epithe-lial cells. Therefore, detection of the levels of HPV -E2 mRNA expression might be clinically valuable for the screen-ing and evaluating of prognosis in cervical lesions.

ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the inhibitory effects of Brucea javanica oil oral emulsion (BJOOE) on primary liver cancer induced by diethylnitrosamine (DEN). Methods:Rats were randomly divided into the control group, model group, and BJOOE group. Rats were given free access to water. DEN was administered intragastrically to induce liver cancer in rats. Five weeks later, rats were intragastrically administered with BJOOE for five times per week. The rats were killed after 14 weeks. Abdominal aortic blood samples were collected. The contents of ALT, AST, ALP, γ-GT, and AFP of serum were detected by an automatic biochemical analyzer. The liver index, spleen index, thymus index, and changes in liver cancer nodules of the surface were observed in rats. Changes in the number of liver cancer nodules of the surface were detected by imaging. Results:Compared with the control group, the liver index, spleen index, and number of nodules of the model group significantly increased, whereas the thymus index significantly decreased (P<0.01). The levels of ALT, AFP, AST, ALP, andγ-GT of serum in the model group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, BJOOE significantly reduced the liver index, spleen index, and number of cancer nodules, but increased the thymus index in the liver of rats with cancer (P<0.01). The levels of ALT, AFP, AST, ALP, andγ-GT of serum in rats with hepatic carcinoma significantly improved (P<0.01 or P<0.05). Conclusion:BJOOE could inhibit primary liver cancer, and the underlying mechanisms are complex.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the pass rates of two primary hearing screening times and to determine the appropriate screening time. Methods The newborns born in 2004 and 2005 at our hospital were divided into two groups: group A and group B.Group A received hearing screening with distortion product otoacoustic emission(DPOAE) on the 3rd day after birth, while group B screened in one month after birth. The newborns who failed the initial screening were rescreened one month later. The babies with positive screening findings were referred to full auditory assessments. Results Group A(n=2 305) had pass rate 81.9% at the initial screening and 85.2% at rescreening.Group B(n=1 348) had pass rate 93.9%(?2=103.99,P
